Oh me oh my.... Do I really have to....
Oh me oh my do I really have to....
I am heading off to the attic to finish it today... wazoo.... so need to get this finished.
My sinuses are killing me. K needs to get her things moved in here and I need a break. I have so many things on my to do list that I must get this done.
I have to make cookies today for my mother to take to Eastern Star tonight. It's time to change officers and move people up through the stations and to retire the "head cheeses."

Happy Thanksgiving....
Happy Thanksgiving. May you and your family have a wonderful day of remembering the good times and those that are no longer with us. Get out the ole slide machine and movie projector and have a good time... laugh a little, make fun of your hair and clothes, cry a little ~ missing the ones who have gone on... telling a new generation of the things you have done with your family ~ introducing them to relatives they may never have met, and remember we live in one of the GREATEST countries in the WORLD!

taxes....
Taxes... the republican party keeps saying that the 1% pay a higher rate.... well I don't know about you folks, but I pay more in taxes than the 1%. When they receive hundreds of thousands dollars back and I only get ... well nothing, many times we have to pay... then I think I am paying more than them. We pay around $18,000 a per year in income taxes out of our check. Guess what the most I have ever gotten back was $500. Which means I am still paying $17000+ in taxes.
My granddaughter said her father made a stupid comment on FB during the elections. "I don't pay taxes, they take it." Well ... Taxes are a part of the working and retirement system. Without them we wouldn't have people in your "dream" career... police. Or as I call them... "legal" bullies!
Taxes are a part of our world. It doesn't matter what country you live in, you will have taxes. They were around long before this country was even founded.
So what is my conclusion... a flat tax. It does not matter if you are rich or poor. One tax. No deductions... just a flat tax. No more IRS forms, no more whining that others aren't paying their fair share.
I have said my peace. Now on with the good life. I have to complain once in a while, just to destress!

Onions could save your life....
Reposting from a friend on FB.
ONIONS! I had never heard this!!!
PLEASE READ TO THE END: IMPORTANT
In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu...
Many of the farmers and their families had contracted it and many died.
The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.
Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser. She said that several years ago, many of her employees were coming down with the flu, and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.
Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:
Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia, and, needless to say, I was very ill... I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs...sure enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.
Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.
This is the other note. Lots of times when we have stomach problems we don't know what to blame. Maybe it's the onions that are to blame. Onions absorb bacteria is the reason they are so good at preventing us from getting colds and flu and is the very reason we shouldn't eat an onion that has been sitting for a time after it has been cut open.
LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS
I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of mayonnaise. Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.
Ed, who was our tour guide, is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially-made mayo is completely safe.
"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked about the summer picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on the table, and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.
Ed says that, when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the ONIONS, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.
He explained onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.
It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!). Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.
Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.
Please remember it is dangerous to cut an onion and try to use it to cook the next day, it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections because of excess bile secretions and even food poisoning.
Please pass this on to all you love and care about.

Scrapbooking and our family history
I have begun scrapbooking and doing a family history for our children. I plan to publish it in a book form for them. I will be doing real scrapbook pages and then I will scan them and digitize them for the printer. I may even just do some by using Microsoft publisher and then write it for them.
Sad but true....
Sad but true our family just doesn't get together like we use to. To many grandchildren and adults going in all different directions. It makes me kind of sad. I miss taking pictures and posting them.
SO since there are fewer picture taking moments, then I will just start scrapbook years and years worth of pictures.

Not only Rachel, but Ashley too....
Not only did Rachel make high honors, so did Ashley. I am soooooo proud of my granddaughters. They take school very seriously.... well at least Ashley does. She studies and freaks about every test... even when she knows all of the material.
Austin and Devon also did very well in school.
Katelyn... well she will be smart also when it is time for her to go to school... wow only four more years til kindergarten.

Rachel..... Woohoo High Honors.
Rachel made high honors. She received a certificate for her achievement. So proud of her. Rachel is one of those students were learning comes pretty easy, however she is only going to put enough effort in it to get her A. No more. ... we need to work on this.
CRAZY....
Crazy ..... It is about time for Thanksgiving. We are breaking with tradition possibly this year. Mom and I are still discussing the menu. Since it will only be one daughter and her two children, mom, my husband and me, we are thinking noodles..... However this is not set in stone yet.
Peer Court
Ashley was asked to be part of peer court. She really enjoyed it. Some of the punishments were not what she wanted. However she did feel most were fair enough.
She has been asked to be one of the attorneys. She will love that.
Ashley said that after interviewing one of the parents, the jury decided the defendant need a "stiff" penalty. They would have punished the mother if they could have.

Well one large....
Well one large stack of magazines are done. I am working on the second large stack and it is almost complete. Then I need to start on those two smaller stacks in the bookcase in my office.... I found a magazine that went back to 1994.... I have been a "pack-rat" with some magazines I guess. Can't wait to get them all finished. Sending a large box of magazines to Lara so she can get the things she wants and then she can pitch them. ....
finally
I think the girls father has finally understood how they feel about everything that he does for his step-children, current wife and not for them. Maybe he finally understands that his children should always come first. I guess going full time Army and a commanding officer reminding him has helped.
He purchased an Iphone 4s for Rachel for Christmas. She feels a little more loved now.

Swasgbucks... another $100.00 into my account....
I have reached another $100.00 into my account. Woohoo. Now my husband will get that camera he wants so badly for Christmas.
My next goal is to give my youngest some cash to help her purchase a new camera for herself.

Sometimes....
Sometimes I just wonder. Wonder if I will ever get through all of the things I want to scan. My goal is to downsize a lot. So I will just keep plugging away.... woohoo. My youngest daughter will love all the magazines I am sending her way very soon.
Gotta love
Gotta love those preschoolers. They make teaching so much fun. I have heard all about each and everyone of their's Halloween. Love it. Now they are getting ready for Thanksgiving. And then it will be Christmas.

The girls got new jackets
The girls got new jackets today. Their mom took them. The new jackets cost over $100 each on sale.
Quaker...
Quaker is fixing up their building. They are putting on new siding. It looks so different. The rumor is that they are going to put it on the market to sell.
That won't affect us ... but it might the younger people.
That won't affect us ... but it might the younger people.
Trick or Treat
We had so many people that we ran out. The bad part is that there were some adults by the end of the evening. The one adult was mad because I ran out of granola bars... well if you hadn't come with a van load of about 30 people... well I wasn't going to give him a granola bar any way... He was like 35 years old.
Halloween is for kids, not adults...
Turned out my lights when the next van load pulled up. So did all the neighbors. We got hit first and then they all disappeared....

Da Boys
Went to see our two grandsons and their folks. Spent the night. Devon needed me to update his laptop and get him all working again. Done. Shane is having some problems with his, but he will need to take it in so it can be fixed. It is missing a key line of command and the CD player and the Internet won't work. I need to see if I can get it on a flash and then have him try and fix it.
If not time for a new one.
Austin is reading a stack of books for school
Casi she is helping Devon's teacher with some kind of project with the students on the IPads.
Other than that, not much else.
Still haven't won the lottery.

Wow we are now in the Thanksgiving count-down. I will be getting ready with the holiday planning. Cookies, candies and food. The kids are looking forward to coming by after school and helping with the baking and cooking. Yeah. So now I need to get a grocery list made and start planning the times to do everything. Love it....
