Boat Races 2010

HOOOONNNNGGGGG goes the warning. 1 minute til the race begins. Boats are lined up, their crews ready to pull the latch that starts the engine. And they are off. Emergency crews sit prepared to help if needed. Not this year so far. Only one boat starts to sink during the races and only one boat decides to flip. No injuries. No accidents. Wow!
It was very cold at the races this year. The temperature was in the 60's with wind gust of about 10 to 15 miles per hour, trees and shade along the viewing area. Cold, blanket weather. I thought winter had arrived early. Welcome Emilia to the Midwest of America.
Here are some of the pictures I took of the races and of the other fun. Hope you enjoy. Please remember the boats are traveling at an average speed of 123 mph plus wind. Some are a little blurry.

Oh how I wish we still had races here in my hometown. They were always fun to go watch. Come on city council, lets invite the boats back to race here again! We don't even have the hot air balloon races any more. What a boring town. More interest in the "looks" than in the people that vote and live here.
