Golden Girls

I am watching TV land Golden Girls... So a rerun... ugh! Better than anything else on the tube....

OKAY ILLINOIS>>> Let's win tonight

Hoping for a victory tonight... GO Illini.

Things I need to get done at work.

This is Palm Sunday. This is Holy Week. There will be three services this week, plus a newsletter to complete before Easter Sunday. Wow. Will I be busy. I also have to finish writing the checks for this month. Okay Monday I am ready for you.

Thank goodness for spring break

Thank goodness for spring break. Yes the students are on spring break. And it is snowing here. Hahaha. No snow day for schools. I have read many teachers' complaining on FB about it snowing. Think about it this way.... you don't have to make it up.

Scrapbook

Think I will work on my family history scrapbook. Mom told me on the phone she was so bored... Told her to write some memories for me to include in my scrapbook.

Thank goodness

Thank goodness for the DVR... Not a thing to watch on TV. So bored. Snow keeping me inside today. Should have ran this morning. Oh well....

Spring and SNOW!!!!

Here it is March 24 and we are having our only major snow storm this year. At least it's not the real windy, with twister clouds like it could be.
I know... be prepared... we could get some real bad storms still.
The wind is gusty tonight and the roads were cleared once today... however ours is snow covered again. Not many cars out and it is a little dangerous.
Hot chocolate, popcorn night.

Sec. of Church

I am the administrative assistant of our church.. Sounds important. I do the job of type, get to practice my bookkeeping skills and answer the phone. I enjoy it as it is not as stressful as teaching... at least not right now.

March 24, 2013

Wow, today I noticed I have not written but 1 blog post all month. I need to get busy and catch up on everything.

just that....

I have seen this a couple times on FB. I thought it was worth doing again.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".. All grades will be averaged a...nd everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on) These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Here it is the ....

Here it is the end of February. 2 months down in the 2013 year. Time is going by quickly. It will be time for school to be out in just 3 months. Wow... If I were still teaching, I would be praying for NO snow days.

And another one...

And another one is finished. Yes I have cleaned out yet another tub of various items related to school and genealogy. Wow, I am beginning to feel success. Now to just keep up that positive energy.

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

wow... rain, rain go away....

It has poured down rain most of the day. At least it was rain. Just think if it was snow we would be buried. The weather man isn't giving us much hope of an early spring... said snow in forecast rest of this week and next week could be another big one.... Well we just haven't had any big ones yet this year. SO ......

Tomorrow...

Well tomorrow will be my first day as the church secretary.... Wishing myself good luck.

I absolutely love.....

I absolutely love skyping with my youngest granddaughter. I wish my other grandchildren would skype that live away from here. I do miss all of them. Come on let me win that lottery.... LOL I want to just visit them all!

Oh the family tree...

I am working on the ole family tree still.... I keep finding more information... so exciting. Sad part is it is time to pay that ancestry.com fee again. So expensive....!

Found!

Found! Yes after reading several article that my great-grandmother Jones had been interviewed for, death of family members and a few for various birthday's of hers since was the oldest living person in one community... each birthday marked by an article and interview of her... I have finally found proof of the infant son she talks about. Now to find someone that know something... well it won't be a family member as my mother is the only one still living, so off to the library for some deep reading. I sure hope I find something soon. I want a name! I want a date! And since the surname is so common and there were actually two families with a husband and wife combination the same, this could be a challenge.

And the....

And the purging continues...! Yes I am still at it. It seems I get done with one stack and then I go and find more and create another stack. It does feel good to dispose of all this stuff. Now just to continue.

Friday, February 22, 2013

We were ....

We were ready for the storm to hit... well we got a little and when it started we were bracing for the worst. About 4 inches of snow with ice on top. Salted the steps and going out to brush the snow off the windows of the car. It has started to melt. Tomorrow will be a tough day to drive if it gets too cold tonight.

Miss K...

Miss K and I skyped again. She was so funny. Her dad called me. She was trying to watch her cartoons and kept moving around the screen to see what was happening and then she would come back to the screen and talk and then move again. Her daddy was moving the Ipad so she couldn't watch the TV. Soon she was pinned against the wall. So we decided she really wanted to watch Bob the Builder more than talk to grandma. LOL

Oh no I am allergic...

Oh no I am allergic to the weather.... LOL. I finally broke down and went since I was having a hard time sleeping and just plain ole breathing. Sinus problems with all of this wild weather. The meds seem to be working.

Going back to work

I am going back to work... just part time. They need a secretary at the church so I am going to be the new secretary. It is not many hours, but it will fill some time.
My husband is finding that retirement just isn't what you dream about. It in reality means you have a lot of time... if you don't fill it with something, you get old an fat.

More recognition...

More recognition... Ashley is gone to the state boys junior high basketball championship in Peoria today. They are being honored. What a great thing all of this has been for her.

Last Friday.....

This is the last Friday for the month of February, 2013. Wow.

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Friday....

Friday the 7th grade girls basketball team are being honored at the state playoffs. So proud of these girls. They will be taking Miss A as she played with them even though she was only 5th grade. Way to go girls. One more honor for you all!

Honors again....

Honors again for both of the girls..... R and A. Woo hoo. So proud of them. Well we are on the last quarter of this school year. That means spring is ready to spring.....

Been....

Been working on my family history again. I have found a great deal of new information. Now to just "digest" it and get it all organized. At one time someone told me that all the people in America with my maiden last name where related. I am beginning to think so. I wish my aunt B and her friend were both still alive. I could finally tell them, "Yes, you are related."

Wow, where has time gone?

Wow, where has time gone?
It is now the 20th of February. This month is almost over. It seems we have some kind of storm going to hit. They just aren't sure how or what. Wish Robert Reese was still alive and giving the forecast. The ones that have taken his place just aren't as good as he was. Maybe with time they will get better, but right now I have NO FAITH in them. I know it is hard to predict things, but at least he was closer than them. Also, I think because of the newer equipment that the national weather service is using we are not getting good reports as they seem to be too sensitive and cause false reports of bad weather. I don't know. Just makes planning your week so much harder.

Muhammad Ali's advice to his daughters...Powerful!

One of my friends posted this on FB ~ Every woman should read it! I don't know who originally posted it, however I think I will purchase the book.

Muhammad Ali's advice to his daughters...Powerful!

An incident transpired when Muhammad Ali’s daughters arrived at his home wearing clothes that were quite revealing.
Here is the story as told by one of his daughters:
“When we finally arrived, the chauffeur escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father’s suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged many hugs and kisses as we could possibly give in one day.
My father took a good look at us. Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Hana, everything that God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to.
Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected.
Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell.
Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock. You've got to work hard to get to them.”
He looked at me with serious eyes. “Your body is sacred. You’re far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too.”

From the book: More Than A Hero: Muhammad Ali's Life Lessons Through His Daughter's Eyes.

Volleyball

Rachel is in full swing with volleyball. She loves sports and she loves cheerleading. Next year she can't cheer and play sports. It doesn't seem possible that she will be high school in just a few months.

Rachel is heading for a school dance

Rachel is heading for a school dance tonight. Then a bunch of them are going to the movies. She is really growing up.

motorcylcle show

My wonderful husband and I are going to the motorcycle show. We have not been for a long time. Can't wait to see what there is to offer.

Scanning, scanning and moare scanning

I am now working on scanning things that are in another tub. I have finished two.... woo hoo!
I am beginning to feel good about this.

Wow no school....

Monday is a holiday. I think I will go help Mom at the church. The secretary got a new job and so now they don't have one. She wants me to work it into my schedule to do the job. I am thinking about it. It is only 20 hours a week and I can still substitute teach while I do the job. Just have to work out my hours there when I can't be there.

Haven't been....

I haven't been on FB much. Ashley has been sick and I have been substitute teaching quite a bit. Ashley has had the flu and she has been down with bronchitis.

Wow only 1 post this month

Wow I have only posted one post this month. I need to get caught up. I have been pretty busy, so I guess that is a good excuse.
NOT!

think about this

Grandmother Says... Carrots, Eggs, or Coffee; "Which are you?"

A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard fo...r her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose.

Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs and the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her granddaughter, she asked, "Tell me what do you see?"

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

She brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they got soft. She then asked her to take an egg and break it.

After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee. The granddaughter smiled, as she tasted its rich aroma. The granddaughter then asked. "What's the point, grandmother?"

Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity--boiling water--but each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her granddaughter.

"When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I?

Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff?

Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate to another level?

Miss K and Skype

Miss K and I skyped last night. She was taking her bath when her dad answered my call. She waved, showed me how she swims in the tub and we smiled at each other and waved. I love Skype.

Tomorrow is February 1

Tomorrow will be February 1. It seems like we were just celebrating New Years Day. Where has this month gone?
I have been moving right along with all of those things I wanted to get scanned.
I feel I can get to the end soon. Wow that would be one more thing off of my to do list.

Well January....

Well January has arrived... we received snow today. Tonight temps in the teens or single digits with sub-zero in the morning with the wind chill factor.
Funny when I was growing up we never heard the term ~ wind chill. We went to school no matter how cold or hot it was. In fact I can only remember a few times of not having school due to weather. A couple of snow storms and a couple of ice storms....

Life

Yes life. We take it for granted many times. Just today a local family lost their newborn son. He only lived a few hours. They have known for a while that he had a defect of the heart. Doctors had hoped he would be strong enough to maybe repair it.
He weighed 3 pound 10 ounces. They are a large family and all got a chance to hold him and take pictures with him before he passed. His last few hours were with his family in their loving arms.
Prayers go out to his family.

and this is ....

And this is January? Temperature today... in the 60's. Thunder storms are a brewing and it is raining. Last night dense fog and games canceled. So this is really January 29?

Read this one on FB. Thought others may enjoy a good laugh.

Read this one on FB. Thought others may enjoy a good laugh.

Billy Graham was returning to Charlotte after a speaking engagement and when his plane arrived there was a limousine there to transport him to his h...ome. As he prepared to get into the limo, he stopped and spoke to the driver.

'You know' he said, 'I am 87 years old and I have never
Driven a limousine. Would you mind if I drove it for a while?'

The driver said, 'No problem. Have at it.'

Billy gets into the driver's seat and they head off down the highway. A short distance away sat a rookie State Trooper operating his first speed trap.

The long black limo went by him doing 70 in a 55 mph zone.

The trooper pulled out and easily caught the limo then got out of his patrol car to begin the procedure. The young trooper walked up to the driver's door and when the glass was rolled down, he was surprised to see who was driving.

He immediately excused himself and went back to his car and called his supervisor. 'I know we are supposed to enforce the law.... but I also know that important people are given certain courtesies. I need to know what I should do because I have stopped a very important person.'

The supervisor asked, 'Is it the governor?'

The young trooper said, 'No, he's more important than that.'

The supervisor said, 'Oh, so it's the president.'

The young trooper said, 'No, he's even more Important than that.'

After a moment, the supervisor finally asked, 'Well then, who is it?'

The young trooper said, 'I think it's Jesus, because he's got Billy Graham for a chauffeur!'

Freezing rain....?

We were to get freezing rain today... well it warmed up before the front hit us so no freezing rain here. It is almost Feb. and we still have not had any really horrible weather. WOOOHOOO!
I know Feb and March can be the worst winter months.

So quiet!

So quiet, yes quiet. The girls both stayed at their friends houses this weekend. So quiet. Not use to it.
I did run up to the school, it was open house today. I had forgotten to put a star on the AR chart for one of the students, so I did that.
Friday I was music and then I was 1st grade in the afternoon. Wow. So I just out of "adjustment" I forgot. But they have their star, their card punched and a yes slip.

RayRay had a birthday party

Rayray had a birthday today at the skating rink. She had a good time skating. So nice to have parties and friends.
I can't believe she is 14 years old. Seems like just yesterday she was being born.

Miss K... NO NAPS!

When I talked to my daughter today my youngest granddaughter Miss K was crying. Lara said that Miss K isn't taking naps any more... Miss K's choice. I talked to Miss K a few minutes as she screamed in the phone. At one point I asked do you need to come to Grandma's house... she stopped crying and said yeah then back to fussy crying.
Miss K you still need to take a nap.
I told her mom I was going to make some grandma hugs and send to her.

I have a question....

I have a question... if the governing bodies of this country set it up so only Republicans can govern our country, does that me we are no longer a truly free country? Wouldn't that make us much like a communist country where the "ruling" party has all the power and the people become basically slaves?

A Friend...

A long time friend's wife,  also a friend through our friendship and church, has several aneurysms in their brain. She is become more frail each week. A few months back he asked if I would do her family history for their children since she cannot remember a lot of things from the past. (This is so sad.) I have started that project. So far I have found much information just based on the little he knew. I plan a trip next week down to the local courthouse and hope to figure out one of my questions I have for the family.

Bill

Saw this on FB and thought I want to keep what he said. Too bad I am not still teaching high school. I would post this on the largest poster board I could find. I think this could apply to the WHITE students that are emulating the "prison codes."
BILL HAS DONE IT AGAIN.
They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English.
I can't even talk the way these people talk:
Why you ain't,
Where you i...s,
What he drive,
Where he stay,
Where he work,
Who you be...
And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.
And then I heard the father talk.
Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.
In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.
People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an Education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.
The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.
These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids.
$500 sneakers for what?
And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.
I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.
Where were you when he was 2?
Where were you when he was 12?
Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol?
And where is the father? Or who is his father?
People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?
People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something?
Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?
What part of Africa did this come from??
We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa .....
I say this all of the time. It would be like white people saying they are European-American. That is totally stupid.
I was born here, and so were my parents and grand parents and, very likely my great grandparents. I don't have any connection to Africa, no more than white Americans have to Germany , Scotland , England , Ireland , or the Netherlands . The same applies to 99 percent of all the black Americans as regards to Africa . So stop, already! ! !
With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap ......... And all of them are in jail.
Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem.
We have got to take the neighborhood back.
People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.
We have millionaire football players who cannot read.
We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job.
Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.
We have to start holding each other to a higher standard..
We cannot blame the white people any longer.'
Dr.. William Henry 'Bill' Cosby, Jr., Ed..D.
WELL SAID, BILL
It's NOT about color...
It's about behavior!!!

Today is...

Today is a holiday to celebrate a famous person's birthday. M. L. King. I read a facebook page today that upset me, but didn't upset me.
I know that race is being used as an excuse for many things. I find it hard to fathom that one race can call another race an inappropriate name but it is unacceptable for the other to call them an inappropriate name. I find it hard that one race can have their own college fund, beauty contests, etc. but another race can't because it is discrimination. I believe fair is fair and if you want to be a part of the American culture, you should be American. Not African American, Hispanic American, European American (yes I saw that just the other day on a survey)... I believe you should be American. No race questions asked.... If you live here, born here, raised here, work here (except like a temporary job) you should be just plain ole AMERICAN!

How long should you grieve?

How long should you grieve? This is a question that my cousin Pam's husband in asking. It has been only two and a half weeks since her passing. He teaches at the college level a course on such matters. He in the past has thought business policy of a few days should be enough. Now he is faced personally with it. It has been more than what he ever imagined. Every place he turns in their home, on their property, when he goes to the store, makes a meal.... How he is asking do you grieve this loss. He has stated that he has gone through the 5 stages of grieving that he has been taught to teach. Now he is finding that those 5 stages seem to come and go. They repeat many times. I know this is hard for him. I know that businesses think you should be able to handle the loss... only the "bosses" have real grief. Not so. Many times the loss of a spouse is loss of income, maybe the only person you know really. If it is the loss of a parent, a child, niece or nephew, cousin, sibling or grandchild you have the same grief. How long should you be aloud to get your life "straightened" out? I can tell you this... It is hard, especially if you were close to the individual. A great solitude is that there is a Heaven and if the individual deserves to be there, they will be.

Just how much more...

Just how much more stuff do I have. I can now see the bottom of that first tub. I know I had a lot of stuff, but really this much. LOL....
I have to say this though... Most of the magazines my mother gave to me. She had her stacks in the shop for a very long time. And she didn't pay for these. The magazine companies kept sending them to her. Finally it is only a few coming each month. So her piles and mine are getting smaller.
My old school stuff I am going through slowly and trying to decide if it will of any value for Ms. K. All of the "tools" I purchased to teach she will be able to use so I am making her a space in the attic with bookcases and tables to work...

I love....

I love the fact my youngest daughter loves to do crafty things with her 1 year old daughter. It is so wonderful to see the interaction of the two of them. Keep it up Little Lu.

Some guy...

Some guy was arrested in a town not to far from here for threatening to shoot up the school. Wow, I think homeschooling is the best choice right now.

3 days!

I will be subbing over the next three days. Two days at the grade school and one at the high school. I sure hope I don't have to play the piano for mass as I am the music teacher that day. And I will be the music teacher on Friday the next week when they have mass at the high school. Guess I should practice. Oh and sure hope I don't have to sing! I love to sing, but not in front of a lot of people. Yes I have been a church choir member for many years, but not in the past 15 years. Nerves....

Holy cow....

Holy Cow did I ever make some progress on the family tree today... Yes I have linked some names that I just couldn't. Now I know that the fellow that was living with my grandparents at one point was one of my grandfather's cousin's. He wasn't in town very long, but long enough to get his name on the books. (City Directory)

The weather....

Crazy weather. It has poured down rain, been 63 degrees, now it is freezing rain falling. I could handle about 60 year round I think.

Just where am I at.....

Just where am I at on my scanning of things..... well I have almost finished one tub. Very large tub. I am beginning to see feel I can accomplish this task during the winter months. I still have many things in the attic, that where in my office, to finish. Oh my will I ever get this all finished. YES I WILL!

Getting started

I am getting started on my next crocheting project. This time it is for Rachel. She wants an afghan for her room. I have all the yarn, need to find my pattern to get started. My plan... to finish this by this time next month.

NO superbowl party

NO superbowl party at this house. All three, yes all three, of my favorite teams where beat out in their first games.... BOOOOOOOO!

My mother......

My mother seemed to age a lot with the death of my cousin Pam. I think with each passing of a younger generation member my mother feels helpless. Not in the sense she cannot do anything for herself, but in the sense she cannot do anything to help them.
Maybe we will get her to take a trip out to Arizona with us. I am sure my brother Chuck would love to have her stay with them for a few days.
Is winter over? It is so nice outside. However they are saying to enjoy it today as behind all this nice weather there is a drop in temperature.

Now I am.....

Now I am days behind on the posting. I have been busy. You know that ole things I need to get done list. I am knocking it off little by little.
I am subbing this afternoon, so I won't get a full day in. Bummer in a way. Nice in others.

Pam...

Pam... we went to the visitation today. My mother, husband, sister, brother-in-law and myself.
When we got there we were first greeted by her 2nd child, Seth. Tears in his eyes... He must of hugged mom for 10 minutes.
Then my cousin's older sister, she and my mother cried together for a long time. Glenda looked so relieved to see her.
Then the other children and of course Glenda's husband Randy. He hugged us all for a long time. Mom is the only mom left in the whole bunch.
Lisa was sitting in a chair and when she spotted us, came running up wanting her hug time. We all cried for a while and then we started remembering the good times.
Finally Rich saw mom. Everyone kept telling mom, "She always said she had your hair and that meant she would live as long as you."
We left before visitation was over, as mother was having a hard time. Rich hugged her numerous times, cried with her and thanked her for always being there.
Mom really had a hard time dealing with this today. So we opted not to go to the burial tomorrow. Mom thinks she couldn't handle it.
So Pamela Sue... You are now in Heaven with everyone that loves you there. Here on Earth you will be missed dearly. Love and Peace.

I know...

I know I am a day behind. Life is tough right now with loosing my cousin so unexpectedly.  So not much to say here.

Friday, January 4, 2013

weather, weather

Weather, well what can we say. They are saying next week a mixture of rain, snow and freezing rain... Yuck!

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Today, Jan. 2, 2013 my cousin Pam passed away. One week to the day she was diagnosed with brain cancer. The cancer was so quick there was absolutely nothing that could be done to save her. It saddens my heart, however I know she was greeted in Heaven by many of our family members and of her mother's family members. (She is related by her father to my side.) Pam was one of those happy go lucky people. She devoted much time to her family and friends. She was active in church and community.
This leaves me with a very important message to all.... Love your family to the fullest. Spend each day doing good for others and yourself. Don't take life like you have all the time in the world to mend fences with others. Don't take life for granted... enjoy it, but not at the expense of hurting others.
Peace be with you.

Jan. 1, 2013

Great thing, maybe, my cousin Pamela is still hanging in there. The cancer has tripled in size in about a week. So quick. So sad. I will truly miss her
My hubby is retired and now we get to spend much needed time together.
I can feel a lottery win in my near future.
I need to go visit my youngest granddaughter, weather get better.
Ashley is having a successful birthday party bash. She has invited 16 school mates.
The girls got home from Texas safely.
I miss my ex-son-in-law taking out the trash without being asked....That one is for you Jason. So much to carry out.
The girls are happy to be home and laughing up a storm.
Ashley just helped me make a cheese ball for her birthday bash.
Ashley's grandma Wallis took her shopping for the plates, table cloth and cups for her party. This made Ashley happy.
We are almost finished with the birthday bash food.
We all made it to midnight so we could get our midnight kiss.
All of the Christmas is put away and we are waiting to put away the snow people until Valentines day.
We are all well and happy.
Mother is doing great for a 94 year young person.

What are my new to do list items:
Just one:
get everything scanned and the paper disposed of .

I will start small and then add as I accomplish each item.

2012 good bye 2013 ....

2012 good bye... 2013 may you be a better year.
Recap of the things that have happened this year.
We have had several funerals ~ families and good friends.
We have a family member who was diagnosed with brain cancer ~ he received good news ~ not malignant and was a fatty tissue type. (He is less than a year old.)
We have a family member who has been diagnosed with brain cancer ~ she will ring in the new year, but will not be here much longer. Her diagnosis was just a few days ago and it has already doubled in size. Prayers to all the family members in Heaven to help welcome her into Heaven. (She just turned 60 in November.)
My sweet hubby has retired.
I spent weeks in England, Wales and Europe visiting family and friends with my granddaughter, daughter and son-in-law ~ When in Wales felt like I belonged there.  Thanks family for making me feel so welcome.
I have been crocheting up a storm. I have started a new book. I have gotten a few things off my "need to do" list.
I have taken trips to visit family and friends here in the states.
Rachel and Ashley stay with us quit a bit because they are going to the private Catholic school and like not being so rushed in the morning.
Mom is still with us. Celebrated her 94th birthday.  Still gets around good for her age. She still loves cooking. Loves going to church and being active in Eastern Star and church activities.
Lara, Chris, Victoria and Katelyn spent Christmas Eve and day with us. Went to church for the Christmas Eve service. Love having them here. Don't look forward to the day Santa will come to their home instead of mine. ( Know that is selfish, but I can't imagine how lonely Christmas will be without them.)
Rachel and Ashley went to Texas and spent Christmas with their father and his wife and stepchildren. Also his parents were there.
Had a picture taken of the three girls and one of the grandchildren with Santa. Love it.
I have written a blog post for every single day this year.
I know there is more... but my brain is telling me it is time to stop and go relax and bring in the New Year quietly here at home with the love of my life.
Have a safe and blessed New Year!

And the stockings were hung

And the stocking were hung in hope that St. Nick would soon arrive.
A little late posting, but hey I have been busy cooking.
Family in Wales.... see my clock you gave me sits on the mantle.

Katelyn and her princess thing

Katelyn loved this Christmas present. She even discovered the hidden compartment.

Been a shoppin'

Went shopping for New Year's Eve and Ashley's party. Got the Brisket that Rachel has been wanting. Party planning. Food almost all bought. Now to get the Christmas decorations down and put away and the food made... wow time is flying by.

Almost 2013

Almost 2013. Hope it is a better year. Well I have had fun this year. But it could be better. My great hubby has only 2 more days of work and he will be retired. Then he can be the "LAZY BUM" he has always wanted to be. That could be bad for his health. So I hope he sleeps for his first couple of weeks, figures out how boring it is and finds something constructive to do.
Well all for today. Need to get some food cooked, a birthday party planned and party food cooked. I also need to get things ready for my hubby to take to work tomorrow since it is his last day of the 2012 year to work and the next to the last day he will ever work at this job.

People of Ohio.....

People of Ohio it is time you get rid of the BUM Boehner! He is un-American... He is the worst person in the UNITED STATES Congress. He is working against America. Get rid of him... or we will be in a depression caused by his B--- S---!
Shame on everyone that has voted for him. Forget party lines. Think what is really good for America and he isn't.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas... we have a little snow... not enough to call Christmas snow. However tonight... well we will see. I guess if it does we can at least call it a Christmas snow.
Gifts are all unwrapped and Katelyn loved her apple Santa brought.
Have a blessed day.

Christmas Eve

Here it is Christmas Eve... well actually Christmas morning. I was so busy cooking and finishing my gift wrapping that I didn't have time to post anything.
We had my sister and her husband over last night. Rebecca also came. So we had a house full with Victoria, Kristina, Lara, Christopher, Katelyn, James, My mom, Marianne and Andy and of course me.
I baked a spiral ham, baked mac and cheese, baked beans and potatoes with a cheese sauce. We talked and played games.
After all of that we went to Christmas Eve Mass.
Off to bed and then hoped Santa would arrive in the morning.

Family get together....

We were all here. Took the grandkids to see Santa and have a picture made. What fun. Also the three girls had their picture done with Santa. We all ate lots of food, took 2 hours to open all the gifts and had lots of laughs. Casi and Shane got a hotel room and the kids went swimming.
Rachel and Ashley left for their dad's house in Texas. Miss them already. Hope you girls be good and have fun. Love you.

We did it...

We  did it. We were able to get everything made the girls wanted to take with them. Wow did that ever wear us out.

The girls have made their food list.

The girls have made their food list.
Pickle wraps, cookies, granny's log, cheese ball.... They want to take this stuff with them for the long car ride to their father's house. So we will see.

Retirement... just 4 more days of work.

My hubby only has 4 more days of work... Woo Hoo! He is ready in some ways and in others I think he is wishing he hadn't decided to retire. Oh well.... welcome to retirement. Now get out and find the "dream" job. LOL

Christmas shopping done....

Christmas shopping done... Nope I have a few more gifts to purchase. Not until after Saturday though.

Ashy has the flu........

Ashy has been complaining of a score throat for a few days. Kristina took her to the doctor's on Wednesday. They tested for strep throat... nope... they tested for flu... yep. So Ashley is done with school for the 2012 year. Doesn't go back until 2013.

Shopping....

Shopping.... will it ever end? Yes Christmas Eve. Well I say that now, however I have a tendency to shop year round... hiding gifts here and there. Now just to think where I have hidden them all.
Been busy for 2 days wrapping. Of course I did not spend all that time wrapping.

How many more days?

How many more days? Well I am sure the 1rst graders I have been working with today could tell you.
Some are more excited about the 1st day of winter than the Christmas holiday.... Such silly students.

School shooting.....

School shooting, it is going to destroy families. I think about all the comments I have been reading on the Internet from people. Gun control... well those guns were legal. Nothing against the law. (I hate guns. Do not support having a gun to carry anytime, anyplace.)
I have a hard time accepting the fact that we keep seeing the pain and suffering in the news. How will the people that need to heal, heal if we keep put it out there? How would you feel? I read one person saying, "How can you call the teacher a hero that locked the students in a closet?" Well that teacher is a hero. She may have saved many more from dying. Why did he attack the two kindergarten classes? Were they the first he could get to? Were they the most venerable? Were they the one that would give the least resistance? Why attack a school?
I have read two different things of interest about school tragedies today:
1st the most deadly:
Bath Township, May 18, 1927, three bombs were exploded at the local school. It killed 38 elementary students in the 2nd to 6th grades. Also killed were 2 teachers and four other adults and the bomber. 58 others were injured. The bomber ~ school board treasurer. He drove up in his car, set off a bomb to kill and injure those who went to the school to help. This is the worst one ever. Not Virginia Tech, Columbine or Newtown. This one no guns were used. No Hollywood movies to blame. Just an ill person.
This column speaks volumes about the news media and may be something we should think about.
Morgan Freeman's statement about these random shootings....
"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.
It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.
CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.
You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem."
Thanks Reagan and your Republican Congress. You can be blamed for a lot of this. You sent a lot of mentally ill people home to families that feared them or to the streets to live, where everyone needs to fear them.
Congress get your act together. Stop thinking cuts in issues that make people "need" to kill so they can do what ever they want to justify what has happened to them.

Getting the goodies....

Getting the goodies all made. I have so much to do and I know I will be very busy next week. I know I will be subbing at least 3 days. Wow.... I need to really get my act together. LOL

Christmas shopping

Christmas shopping.... almost done. Have a few more things I need to pick up. Wow... Just when you think you are finished.....

Busy, busy, busy!

Busy, that is what I am. I have been subbing almost as much as if I was still working. Wow. Nice to have the "overtime" pay for once in my life. I really like subbing with the little ones. They are so much fun.

Wow ....

Wow it seems I have fallen 5 days behind. I need to catch myself up on my writings.

Monday, December 10, 2012

Oh no....

Oh no he won't be ..... My husband is retiring in just a few weeks. He is watching those shows he watches every morning.... NO you are not going to have the squawk box on all day with those shows. I will have the cable turned off!

Miss K...

Miss K is learning to talk really well. Wow it just doesn't seem possible. In my mind she is still a baby. Love ya K.

Christmas....

Christmas is just 15 days away. Bummed out that the girls will be with their father in Texas. But we will have them back home in time for the new year party.
Going to miss ya girls.

update

Update: Ashley's team won the state championship game. WooHoo. She is only in 5th grade and she is rather.... short so she didn't get to play much. However they made sure she was in the pictures, that she had her picture taken with the trophy and that she had a good time.
She told me just before the game when she saw the larger than normal crowd, "I have butterflies. "
After the game and all the cheering we headed home and stopped at a steak n shake in Champaign.... it took an hour.... poor service, food sat waiting on someone to serve it.... terrible.
Oh well what can you expect at 11:00 at night.
Any ways~ way to go Toppers. Let everyone know you will be back again next year.

Christmas parties

Christmas parties have begun. The girls went with their grandfather and their mother to the corporate party, while I stayed home and finished our tree. Now if I could just get those gifts wrapped.
Tonight they are at a party put on by grandpa's union.... stating, free goodies and of course a guest visit by Santa.

It's beginning.....

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Hall House. Tree is up. Many decorations are up. Not doing every room this year.
How ever, I am ready for the Christmas break. I will be missing three of my granddaughters and three of my grandsons, HOWEVER my little cutie Miss K will be here with her big sister Victoria. Oh and her parents too. We have invited Kristina to come stay since her girls will be in Texas.

Sugar Gliders

Kristina has some sugar gliders. Do they ever stink! Just how do I convince her to get rid of them so they don't stink up the living area of everyone else?

Basement

Basement, we are going to make the basement into an area where the girls can practice dribbling the ball. Hahaha. When they are here they always want to practice basketball dribbling on the second floor. Uhhhh no. So grandpa said he would get them an area in the basement where they can practice.

Dec. 1, 2012

Wow, It is Dec. 2012. Where has time gone?
Lots of changes going on around here. We are turning the attic into an office for Kristina since she has so much stuff. Portable heaters will keep it warm and this summer we hope to redo all the walls, upgrade the electric box and add outlets up there.
The girls are doing great in school. High Honors.
Today the principal at the school I sub in told me, "You are here so much we need to get you a key." No I don't think so. I just want to sub enough to make a little extra cash so I can do the attic.
The boys have grown so much. I almost didn't recognize them. They are both going to be taller than their mother soon. My mom was here for Thanksgiving and boy can you tell that they are related to her side of the family. Mr. A looks just like my mother's brother at that age.   Of course we all thought Uncle G looked an awful lot like Elvis at one point in time.
We haven't seen Miss K for about a month. They were in Washington D.C. over Thanksgiving. Can't wait though. About 24 days till she will be here again. She is getting so big. I love looking at her pictures. She is so cute and is such a happy baby.
You know if I had my way all of my children, their spouse and their children would be living right here with us.
I didn't win that elusive lottery so I guess my "dream" still hasn't come true.
My mother is doing really well for someone that is 94. I talk to her each day and see her most every day.
My husband has just one month left and he will be retired. I just hope he finds some other programs to watch as I really get tired of the same ole news programs all day long. The people on these shows and their opinions really get on my last nerve. I would rather watch boxing as the news constantly and listening to others opinions.
Well I have said about all I have to say. Happy Dec. And remember this is the season for Jesus....
